At Bellerive FCJ Catholic College, the intent of our Geography curriculum is to provide a high-quality geographical education that inspires curiosity, enthusiasm and enjoyment. We aim to ensure that all students develop a secure understanding of the complex interactions between human and physical processes that shape the world around them, whether they complete their Geography studies at Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 or Key Stage 5.

Our curriculum leads students on a journey of discovery that extends well beyond their own lived experiences. Through a rich, varied and challenging curriculum, students explore both natural processes and human behaviours, developing a deeper understanding of the world in which they live. We seek to nurture students’ natural curiosity and encourage them to ask questions, think critically and engage meaningfully with contemporary global issues.

Geography at Bellerive FCJ is taught through a carefully sequenced spiral curriculum. Key knowledge and concepts are revisited and built upon over time, allowing students to make synoptic links between topics and secure long-term understanding. At Key Stage 3, the curriculum is ambitious and goes beyond the expectations of the National Curriculum. At GCSE and A Level, we follow the AQA Geography specification to ensure strong progression and academic rigour.

By the time they leave Bellerive FCJ, students will be environmentally aware, informed and critical thinkers. They will be well prepared for further education, training or employment, and able to reflect on their geographical knowledge in later life. Most importantly, they will be empowered to make thoughtful, responsible decisions that contribute positively to a sustainable and just world.
