MUSIC
The Music curriculum aims to inspire a lifelong love of music by developing students’ passion, creativity and musical skills in performance, composition and listening across diverse genres and cultures. Through engaging and inclusive learning experiences, students are encouraged to explore music across a wide range of genres, styles and cultures, helping them to appreciate music as a powerful form of expression and communication and develop many transferable skills.
Our curriculum is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to perform, compose and respond to music with confidence and understanding. Students learn to sing, play instruments and improvise both as soloists and as part of ensembles, developing technical accuracy, expressive control and musical confidence. Through composition, students create original music using a range of techniques, structures and technologies, while structured listening activities develop their ability to analyse, discuss and evaluate music from different historical periods, traditions and cultural contexts.
Throughout all Key Stages students develop skills that are valuable both within and beyond the music classroom, such as confidence, self-discipline, creativity, problem-solving, teamwork, leadership, resilience and concentration. Beyond the classroom, we offer a rich programme of extracurricular activities, including ensembles, performances, workshops, competitions and concert visits. Thes provide valuable opportunities for students to deepen their engagement with music, build confidence and share their talents. Together, these experiences support students in becoming confident, creative and compassionate individuals who value creativity as an essential part of human life.
