Business & Computing

Business

At Bellerive, our Business curriculum empowers students with the knowledge, understanding, and practical skills needed to thrive in today’s dynamic business environment, whether as future employees, entrepreneurs, or informed citizens.

We provide a strong foundation in key concepts and a broad understanding of how businesses operate locally, nationally, and globally. Students will explore core business functions such as marketing, finance, operations, and human resources, while examining how external factors, like economic trends, technology, legislation, and globalisation shape business activity.

Our curriculum develops deep subject knowledge, including essential terminology, theories, and models, alongside practical skills that prepare students for real-world challenges:

  • Problem-Solving & Decision-Making: Analyse data, think critically, and make evidence-based decisions.

  • Quantitative Skills: Apply numerical techniques to calculate profit, break-even points, and interpret financial data.

  • Communication & Presentation: Strengthen formal writing, presentation skills, and effective communication.

  • Ethical Awareness: Understand social responsibility and ethical dilemmas in business.

  • Resilience & Independence: Build confidence, adaptability, and independent working skills.

  • British Values: Promote respect, tolerance, and appreciation of diversity in the workplace.

Learning is contextualised through real-world applications, linking theory to current business scenarios and global affairs. We also prioritise financial literacy, ensuring students can make informed personal and business financial decisions.

Ultimately, our goal is to equip students for success, whether pursuing higher education or entering a wide range of careers in the business world.

Computing

The computing department aims to inspire all students with a supportive and challenging learning experience that balances all aspects of IT and computer science.

Our computing curriculum aims to equip all learners with the knowledge, skills, and understanding to thrive in a digital world. We strive to develop confident, creative, and responsible users of technology who can apply computational thinking to solve real-world problems, participating effectively and safely in a digital world.

Through a range of activities students will gain a deep understanding of computer science principles, including algorithms, programming, data representation, and networks. They will also explore the impact of technology on society, ethics, and sustainability.  Learners will develop practical skills in coding, digital content creation, and problem-solving. They will learn to use a range of software and hardware tools to express their creativity and innovate.

The aim for our students is that upon completion of the computing curriculum they will be adaptable, resilient and digitally literate so that they can express themselves through the development of their ideas using computer technology, at a level that is suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in the rapidly changing digital world.
