Pam Thornton

Celebrating the life of Pam Thornton, former chair of governors at Bellerive

The family, friends and former colleagues of Pam Thornton gathered in the Loyola Hall at Bellerive on 7th July to remember Pam and offer thanks for her life in an anniversary Mass celebrated by Bishop Emeritus Tom Williams.

Pam's daughters, grandchildren were joined by Bellerive staff, representatives from the FCJ sisters and other members of the wider community to mark her many decades of service to Bellerive as well as to the wider Catholic church in Liverpool. Her dedication in this regard was second to none.

Those gathered included former Bellerive headteacher Sr Brigid fcJ, who worked  closely with her when Pam was Chair of Governors.  Pam was a stalwart friend to the school in difficult times and Sr Brigid spoke with great emotion about Pam's sense of service and the strength of her faith.  Pam's commitment to justice in the widest sense of the word was also something Sr Brigid made specific reference to.

Pam's daughter Debbie Crawley spoke on behalf of the family and shared many warm and personal memories of Pam as a mother, grandmother and reminded us of her great dedication to the church.  While we miss Pam very much, her kindness, gentleness and resilience will continue to serve as an example to future generations at Bellerive. In the words of Sr Claire Sykes, fcJ ( former FCJ Schools Officer): "To be dedicated is to be faithful and one could claim that Pam was a true faithful companion of Jesus".
