Bellerive students create special mosaic for St. Michael's station
Students at Bellerive FCJ Catholic College and Upton Hall FCJ have completed a special mosaic highlighting places of peace and contemplation, which is now on display at St Michaels station on the Merseyrail network.
Many pupils across a range of years contributed to the impressive artwork which details famous locations across the Liverpool City Region and beyond, including Formby pinewoods, Another Place at Crosby, the Sefton Palm House and even the Moel Famau mountain peak.
The original mosaic remains on display at the school, while a faithful reproduction has been created for St Michaels station. This has been displayed on a platform wall, helping to improve the station environs.
Sally Ralston BEM, Community Involvement Manager at Merseyrail, said: “We’re delighted with the fantastic artwork that the students of Bellerive FCJ and Upton Hall FCJ Schools have produced. It’s so important to be able to showcase our stations that inspire and please our customers.
“The mosaic shows real pride in the Liverpool City Region, and I hope customers enjoy the work for many years to come. I know the pupils put in many hours of hard work, and on behalf of Merseyrail I would like to thank them for their efforts.”
Shelagh McNicholas, teacher of Art and Design Technology at Bellerive FCJ, added: “It has been an absolute pleasure to work with Merseyrail on creating this collaborative paper mosaic with our friends at Upton Hall FCJ. Together the students have focused on places of peace and contemplation where they can just be. We are mindful of how busy and hectic life can be and we hope that the artwork will inspire train travellers to hop on the train and take themselves to the places highlighted on the mosaic. We are very proud to have the work on display at St Michaels Station and delighted to bringing arkwork into the community for all to see.
