Like our city of Liverpool, the links between Bellerive and Ireland are very strong and no more so than in the RE department where sporting rivalries are building to fever pitch this week.
As counties Mayo and Tyrone prepare to do battle in Croke Park, Dublin this Saturday in the All-Ireland football final, 3 of our RE teachers have more reason than most to look forward to the throw-in. Mrs Ford is flying the green and red of Mayo, hailing originally from Bangor Erris. On the opposing side is Miss McCourt, from Clonoe and Mrs Weir from Eglish who are hoping Tyrone make it All -Ireland number 4 this year.
Staff from other counties in Ireland are keeping their thoughts to themselves but with both his parents from Aghyaran in Co.Tyrone, Mr McMenamin will have to come off the fence on this one.
Mrs Ford has discounted the infamous Mayo curse and is convinced the Sam Maguire trophy will be heading west for the first time since 1951 this weekend. Time will tell who will be smiling on Monday morning at the staff briefing.
Here are our colleagues in their county colours.
